Conshohocken Physical Therapy’s Dr. Christopher Wickel becomes Certified McKenzie Spinal Specialist

Dr. Wickel passes his certification exam from the The McKenzie Institute®, USA – Center for postgraduate study in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®.
The McKenzie Method, well known for improving low back pain, is a philosophy of active patient involvement and education for back, neck and extremity issues. What sets it apart is an innovative assessment process - a safe, reliable means to accurately reach a diagnosis and only then create the appropriate treatment plan. This step-by-step framework and problem-solving algorithm will allow us to know right away if the method will work for our patients, eliminating the need for expensive, time-consuming tests and further evaluation.

Evidence shows that McKenzie therapy results in a decrease in short-term pain and disability for low back pain patients compared with other standard treatments, such as Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), back massage with back care advice, strength training with therapist supervision, and spinal mobilization.
“Neck and low back pain are by far two ailments that I am most passionate about treating. No back pain is exactly the same. After determining what each patient needs to address their problem, it's rewarding to see patients reduce or abolish their pain completely - often very quickly. Knowing how to control your pain, and prevent recurrence is a great tool to give to patients.” explains Dr. Wickel.
