After plateauing briefly last month, gas prices in the Plymouth Whitemarsh has risen around 15 cents per gallon in the past two weeks. As of the afternoon of March 29, each station we surveyed is above the national average of $3.92 per gallon of regular.
While it can be tempting to drive out of town in search of cheaper gas prices, AAA cautions against it. According to Jenny M. Robinson, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic, the fuel motorists use hunting for deals often offsets any savings.
“Shopping with your steering wheel is a quick way to save,” said Robinson in a press release, “however, motorists who want make driving out of their way to save ‘worth it’ will need to save about ten cents per gallon at a station that is only about 2 miles out of their way. If they go even further, at 4 miles out of their way, they’ll just break even.”
