Blackfish Chef Nominated for James Beard Award
Chip Roman is up for best chef in the Mid-Atlantic.

Chip Roman, the owner-chef of Conshohocken’s , has been nominated for a James Beard Award in the category of Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic.
The nomination is the sixth Roman has collected, and though he’s yet to take home a Beard Prize, he told The Times Herald he still considers the nomination a feather in his already well-adorned cap.
“It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers and it’s absolutely an honor,” said Roman, but “I don’t get my hopes up anymore though. I’m a little hesitant to get excited about it, but it’s still awesome to be recognized... I don’t cook to win a James Beard award; I cook to make my customers happy and feed my kids.”

Roman, who opened the upscale Blackfish six years ago and is credited in some quarters for spearheading the resurgence of Conshohocken, is one of 20 semifinalists for the award, which will be delivered in May 7 ceremony in Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
“I’m just happy to be here and have other restaurants and competition around,” Roman said.
