Borders to Close All Stores, Including Plymouth Meeting Location

The bookstore chain will be closing its Plymouth Meeting Mall express store sometime in the coming months.

Shoppers at the Plymouth Meeting Mall will have one less place to buy their books come September.

Inc., the second-largest bookstore chain in the country after Barnes & Noble, said Monday it would liquidate its remaining 399 stores after it failed to receive any offers to save it, the Wall Street Journal reported. Nearly 11,000 jobs will be lost.

"Following the best efforts of all parties, we are saddened by this development," Borders Group President Mike Edwards said in a statement. "We were all working hard towards a different outcome, but the headwinds we have been facing for quite some time, including the rapidly changing book industry, eReader revolution, and turbulent economy, have brought us to where we are now.”

According to the release, liquidation is expected to commence for some stores and facilities as soon as Friday, July 22, with a phased rollout of the program, which is expected to conclude by the end of September, subject to court approval.

The closure will include the Borders Express in Plymouth Meeting Mall, though it is not known at this time when the store will close its doors for good.

The news of the closures comes months after the chain announced it filed for bankrupts in February.
