From the Colonial School District:

At a special meeting on December 18, the Colonial Board of School Directors appointed Heather Palmer to the vacant seat on the Board. Mrs. Palmer has been a resident of Whitemarsh Township for the past 12 years and has been active in the Whitemarsh Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization, as a homeroom parent and more.

Mrs. Palmer, who has worked as a Global Marketing Director at Johnson and Johnson for the past 15 years, holds a bachelor's degree in business from the Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree in marketing from Duke University.

"I am very excited to join the Colonial School Board for 2013," Mrs. Palmer said. "I look forward to contributing to the many initiatives the current Board has in place and bringing a fresh perspective as the Board builds upon the continued success of the School District."

Mrs. Palmer fills the seat vacated by Julie Knudsen who resigned last month. The seat will be up for election to a two-year term in November 2013.

"The Board was impressed with the credentials of all 12 applicants," said President Alan Tabachnick. "We were unanimous in feeling that Heather's familiarity with the District, leadership responsibilities in a large corporation, and experience managing multi-million dollar budgets provide the right fit for us at a time when we are facing a difficult financial horizon. We are excited with the knowledge and experience that she can bring to the Board."
