As we watched the events in Washington D.C unfold yesterday, we continue to realize the challenging times in which we live. In addition to the ongoing pandemic, many of our children have now witnessed disturbing images of an attack on our nation’s Capitol Building. We realize that today is not simply another day of school.

The Board of School Directors, administration and staff are committed to our mission to be an innovative educational leader in preparing students to become life-long learners who are successful contributing members of society. Yesterday’s awful events in Washington D.C. are obviously unacceptable.

Colonial School District and the Board of School Directors condemn violence of any kind, and we regard the sanctity of our democracy to be the foundation of our country. We are committed to providing a safe and caring environment where students can collaborate and share discourse in a supportive and respectful atmosphere. We must be driven by integrity to create a better future for our students.

Your children may have questions regarding yesterday’s events. Please click here for a link to the National Association for School Psychologists that provides advice when talking with students about violence.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Christian
Superintendent of Schools
