"I was very bored, so I learned how to tie dye," said Alex. "It is easy to make, and it helps me express myself through the colors."
After the first few tie-dyed shirts, the fifth grader built her new skill into a business where the proceeds went to support The COVID-19 Better Together Fund at Abington Hospital and Jefferson Health.

"My friend owns a business, and I thought it was so cool," added Alex.
The fund helped hospital staff and others facing financial hardships due to the pandemic. Through the sale of her first 40 shirts, Alex was able to donate $256. Her uncle, a doctor at Abington Hospital who was her inspiration for choosing the cause, matched the initial donation.
Her goal is to be able to give $500.
"My favorite thing about the project is that I'm giving back to my community," said Alex.
Anyone interested in learning more about Alex's project or ordering a shirt can visit her new website, called The Color Club.
