Flying Debris Kills Man On PA Turnpike In Whitemarsh: Reports

Authorities said a tire came off a tractor trailer, causing debris to go flying and strike an SUV on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 276.

WHITEMARSH TOWNSHIP, PA – A man died Friday morning after debris struck the SUV he was driving in on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Whitemarsh Township, according to reports.

Authorities said the incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 276 in Whitemarsh.

Police have identified the driver as 57-year-old Gregory Leiber of Langhorne.

CBS Philadelphia reports a tire from a tractor trailer came loose, causing debris to go flying into the driver's side of the windshield of Leiber's vehicle and striking him in the head.

The incident happened just past the Norristown exit, according to 6ABC.
