Montgomery County Fire Leaves One Dead, Four Injured

When firemen attempted to enter the burning home to save a trapped resident, the floor collapsed.

A lethal fire ripped through a residence in Souderton in the early hours of Monday morning, leaving four injured and one dead, fire officials confirmed.

Fire units arrived at the scene on 122 Skippack Creek Road at about 1:58 a.m. on Monday, officials said.

The back of the house was already “heavily involved in fire” and a second alarm was quickly struck, according to officials.

Several residents that had escaped the house told firemen that a woman who lived there was still trapped inside, officials said.

The woman ultimately died at the scene, officials said.

Four adults who were also residents of the home were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to fire officials.

In addition to Harleysville Fire Company, 50 firefighters from nine other fire companies battled the blaze deep into the night, officials said.

The blaze was extinguished at 3:40 a.m.

The exact extent of property damage is unknown, but it appears to be significant.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and is under investigation by the Lower Salford, Montgomery County and Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal’s offices.
