Driver High On Fentanyl In Whitemarsh Crash That Killed Woman, Baby: DA

WHITEMARSH, PA — More details emerged in the fatal intoxicated driving crash in Whitemarsh Township in May that left a local woman and her baby dead.

Jabrial Terry, 27, of Philadelphia, has been charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, and numerous related counts, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced.

The incident occurred at 6 p.m. on May 4 on Skippack Pike in Whitemarsh.

Terry got high on fentanyl, oxycodone, Benzodiazepines, and cannabinoids before getting behind the wheel of his 2000 Buick LeSabre, police said.

Terry was going eastbound at about 50 miles per hour in the 45 mile per hour zone when he lost control and swung off the right side of the roadway into a concrete culvert drainage ditch.

He overcorrected and veered too far back into the road, entering the westbound lane and hitting a 2009 Toyota Corolla head-on.

The driver of the Toyota, West Norriton resident Anne Nyaga, was severely injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. Nya Stokes, 24, of Philadelphia, the passenger in the Buick who was nine months pregnant, was rushed to Abington Hospital where an emergency C-section was performed.

Stokes was pronounced dead at 6:49 p.m. The baby was delivered alive but only lived five days, dying from injuries on May 9.

Terry was helped out of the vehicle by bystanders and then taken to the hospital for treatment for various injuries to his face and legs.

Police said they found cash, marijuana, and dozens of pills on Terry, including 39 Oxycodone, 45 Xanax and eight buprenorphine/naxolone pills.

Terry was released on $99,000 bail on the condition that he not drive. A preliminary hearing is set for July 10.
