The Montgomery County Fire Academy will graduate its first class of 38 new firefighters from its new Summer Essentials program during a ceremony at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29th.
Piper Bill Wilfong will lead the graduates into the auditorium at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Campus, 1175 Conshohocken Road, Conshohocken PA 19428, for the ceremony.
The new firefighters are from 26 fire companies from Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties.
The new Summer Essentials program is a day-time training program that offers the four courses that comprise the PA Entry Level Firefighter curriculum sequentially over five weeks. The goal of the program is to offer fire training in a format that would allow college students to train as firefighters during their summer break. It is offered at the Montgomery County Fire Academy in conjunction with the Montgomery County Community College,
The Commencement speaker will be Michael Weider, who began his fire service career in 1979 as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania. Weider is now Associate Director of Oklahoma State University’s Fire Protection Publications and the Executive Director of the International Fire Service Training Association.
