GA Sports: Baseball Defeats Episcopal 9-1 behind Pitcher Aiello

Earns victory in first Inter-Ac contest.

The baseball team (8-1-1, 1-0) opened up Inter-Ac play in impressive fashion Tuesday, defeating Episcopal Academy 9-1 to push their win streak to six.

The team was led by a stellar performance from starting pitcher John Aiello, who pitched all but the final out in seven innings of play. The freshman struck out nine batters while walking only one, allowing four hits and one unearned run.

The game had the look of a close one early, as neither team scored through the first four innings. But the Patriots exploded to start the fifth, scoring five runs and driving Episcopal's starting pitcher from the game. They would add one more in the sixth before scoring three insurance runs to start the final seventh inning.

Offensively, the Patriots were led by senior infielder Michael Fitzgerald and outfielder Robert Gorman, who collected two RBIs apiece, while Daniel Hoy, Ryan Dolan, and Ryan Obrecht  each knocked in one run. Obrecht also anchored GA in the field, recording 10 putouts on the day.

The team looks to remain undefeated and move to 2-0 in league play when they host Haverford School Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
