Germantown Academy to Celebrate Chinese New Year

The second-annual event will feature painting and a tea ceremony demonstration.

will celebrate the 2012 Chinese New Year on Saturday, February 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the dining and common rooms on campus.

Last year's first-time event drew more than 200 students, parents, faculty and staff to a wonderful showcase of Chinese entertainment and crafts. This year's event will feature several new activities for the community, including:

  • Chinese painting by Ms. Chao Liying, teacher at the Dinghao Chinese School. Participants will be taught how to use the Chinese painting tools to draw and will take home a beautiful piece of Chinese art.
  • Chinese Tai Chi / Gong Fu performances and on-site guidance by Matt Zhang, Leader of East West Institute, Willow Grove.
  • Chinese Tea demonstration by former GA teacher Ben Olsin and his wife, who owns a tea shop Center City.

In addition, there will be a few short performances by our own students who are either native Chinese speakers or are studying Chinese with Mrs. Wendy Chen.
