Lanes Closed on Interstate 476: This Week's Construction Update

A look at what might be affecting area commuters from July 11 to July 15.

According to a release from PennDOT, area travelers can expect nighttime lane closures on Interstate 476 On Wednesday and Thursday.

The release states that northbound lanes on the Blue Route will be closed on July 13 and 14 for bridge construction at the Interstate 76 exchange near Conshohocken’s exit 16 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Drivers should also be aware of slow-moving construction vehicles entering and leaving the northbound express lane between exit 16 and the Plymouth Meeting (exit 20) interchanges.

In addition, slowdowns are expected between Chemical and Alan Wood Roads in Plymouth Meeting and Conshohocken due to construction on the I-476 overpass in Plymouth. The construction is scheduled July 13 and is set to last from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The release says that the construction is part of PennDOT’s $71.7 million project to rebuild the 3.2 miles of I-476 between the I-76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges in Montgomery County.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work area and reminded to slow to the posted 45 miles per hour speed limit and remain alert for shifting traffic patterns in the work zone.

Area motorists should also be aware of the following:

  • Non-residential areas in Plymouth will continue to experience the potential for general construction noise as part of the ongoing Northeast Extension Reconstruction and Widening Project. Noise may occur with no specific neighborhoods or area effected. Minor excavation, equipment movement, lighting and backup alarms may be heard between 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from Monday, July 11 until Friday, July 15.

  • PECO will be conducting utility repair on July 11 through July 15 form 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lane restrictions are expected to occur between Hannah Avenue and Arch Road in Plymouth.

  • Utility work is scheduled to continue on North Wales Road and Skippack Pike in Whitpain and Wrocester Townships. To see a complete list of construction planned through July 15, including work on Wentz and Jolly Roads in Whitpain, see the release attached to this story.
