MAXOUT STRENGTH STUDIOS HAS REFOCUSED BUSINESS MODEL TO AIDING TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS IN THEIR NEW NATIONAL FRANCHISE OFFERING

The acclaimed fitness business is now dedicated to strengthening the mind, body and soul of teens

Did you know that teens who do not participate in afterschool programs are nearly three times more likely to skip classes than teens who do participate? They are also three times more likely to use marijuana or other drugs, and they are more likely to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes and engage in sexual activity (Afterschool Allliance.org).

It’s statistics like these that made Jason Griggs, president and chief executive officer of MaxOut Domestic Franchising and MaxOut Strength Systems, and Matt Cubbler, vice president and chief operating officer of MaxOut Domestic Franchising and MaxOut Strength Systems, decide that now was the time to focus on helping the teens and young adults in their own community by redefining the business model of MaxOut Strength Studios.

“When we first started MaxOut, we thought that our mission was clear – to help our clients of all ages to become as physically strong as possible,” said Cubbler. “But as the business has evolved, we’ve seen a trend, especially with our teenage clients, that our program was helping them with their mental strength as well. As more and more kids began to come to MaxOut, we knew that we had an opportunity to positively impact the lives of these kids and that made our decision easy to dedicate our business to solely helping them.”

Already known for their outstanding strength and conditioning programs, thanks to the unique Barwis Methods MaxOut Tower on each piece of training equipment (the counter weight method delivers faster results than typical weight training by maximizing the eccentric or “negative” of a repetition), Griggs and Cubbler agreed that building the inner strength of its teen clients was just as important as developing their physical strength. But to do it right, would require research and a curriculum that could be easily taught to other strength coaches both locally and throughout the country who would also serve as mentors in their local MaxOut location.

Together, the two consulted the best experts in the fields of mentoring and leadership, to create a comprehensive MaxOut Mentorship and Leadership Program to coincide with their already successful strength training regimen. The MaxOut Mentorship and Leadership Program was created with one guiding principle in mind – to help kids identify within themselves their own personal strengths and weaknesses and then, with the help of the MaxOut staff, guide them down the path of accentuating those strengths while minimizing the exposure of their weaknesses.

This approach is very hands on and individualized, according to Cubbler, who said, “The program involves each of our staff members literally integrating him or herself into that client’s life. With the consent and cooperation of the parents, he or she communicates with their clients in between sessions, attends school functions, and lends advice or just serves as someone to listen to them whenever necessary.”

Unlike other fitness facilities that are often sterile and promote a sense of urgency in getting the workout done as quickly as possible, MaxOut Strength Studios actually encourages its clients to stay and “hang out” in its facility. In fact, it has recently redesigned its Limerick location with a dedicated space for them where the mentoring and leadership training process will take place. It is also an area where they can do homework, mingle or just relax – creating a sense of community among one another.

“It’s a really great, positive and fun environment,” said Griggs. “We love that we have teens from all different walks of life just hanging out here and talking. In a sense, this is the one place that they can come and all be equals.” Even local coaches and teachers have noticed that the kids they know who go to MaxOut Strength Studios seem to be excelling in our program. One coach simply stated that “it makes my job easier knowing that they are becoming class leaders and getting physically stronger at the same time!”
