Montco's 'Bucket Hat Bandit' Bank Robber Captured: FBI

A man known as the "Bucket Hat Bandit," wanted for multiple bank robberies in Montgomery County, has been captured, the FBI says.

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — A man known as the "Bucket Hat Bandit," wanted for multiple bank robberies in Montgomery County, has been captured, the FBI says.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified by authorities, was behind robberies in both West Norriton and Plymouth Meeting last Thursday afternoon, Aug. 26, authorities said.

Wanted posters published by the FBI showed the man wearing a camouflage-colored bucket hat pulled down low over his eyes.

The first incident occurred at around 1:45 p.m. last Thursday at the Harleyville savings Bank on 2301 West Main Street in Eagleville.

The man lifted his shirt as he approached he teller, flashing a "silver item" in his waistband that presumably threatened the employee, according to local police.

The suspect then handed the teller a note demanding cash, and fled the scene in a black BMW with purple rims with an undisclosed amount, the FBI said.

The next incident occurred just hours later, at 5:09 p.m. at the Republic Bank on West Germantown Pike in Plymouth Meeting.

Again, the Bucket Hat Bandit, captured on surveillance camera, passed a note to the teller demanding cash, according to officials. He fled in the same vehicle with an unknown amount of money.

Exact charges have not yet been announced.
