Plymouth, Whitemarsh To Be Sprayed For West Nile Virus

Plymouth and Whitemarsh will be sprayed with a chemical to limit mosquito populations and the spread of West Nile Virus.

PLYMOUTH-WHITEMARSH, PA — The Montgomery County Office of Public Health will spray for mosquitoes in the Plymouth and Whitemarsh area later this month.

The ultra-low volume chemical spray will aim to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus. The spraying comes in the wake of dozens of positive samples found around Montgomery County, including in Plymouth, Whitemarsh, Collegeville, Lower Providence, Upper Providence, and Philadelphia.

Workers will use Duet duel-action adulticide, launched from a truck-mounted spray.

Officials say that residents "should consider" staying inside while the spraying is occurring, and turning off any ventilation systems that draw in outside air.

This is among the first mosquito sprayings in the area this summer. Another spraying is set for the Collegeville and Upper Providence area on July 25.
