BLUE BELL, PA -- A Montgomery County Community College student has been honored by a national organization for her community work.

Isabella Farinas, a Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School junior who is also enrolled at the college, is one of only 273 students nationwide to be named a 2017 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact, the school announced Wednesday.

Farinas was selected for her work with the Campus Election Engagement Project, an initiative raising voter registration awareness at the college leading up to the 2016 general election.

As a Newman Civic Fellow, Farinas will attend a national conference in partnership with the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The one-year fellowship "emphasizes personal, professional, and civic growth," the college said.
