Plymouth Whitemarsh High School will present the Philadelphia area high school debut of In the Heights. In the Heights is the 2008 Tony Award winning Best Musical. Set in modern day Washington Heights, a New York neighborhood north of Harlem, In the Heights combines pop, latin, and rap styles in a groundbreaking musical.
In the Heights, which opened on Broadway in the Spring of 2008, focuses on a neighborhood of Latino immigrants living paycheck-to-paycheck in Washington Heights, New York. Usnavi, a Dominican immigrant and the owner of a corner “bodega,” dreams of returning to the Dominican Republic while pursuing the beautiful Vanessa, a hairdresser at the local beauty salon. When their younger neighbor Nina returns from college with shocking news and the community’s “Abuela” wins the lottery, the entire neighborhood must question their faith and sense of community to discover the true meaning of “home.” Since its Broadway premiere, starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, this remarkable show has been nominated for thirteen Tonys and has won a Grammy.
Our cast, crew, pit and staff have been hard at work for over 3 months and are excited to present this great show. We hope that you will join us for one of four performances on March 20, 21 and 22 to see this electrifying show and the talented group of PW students involved in the production.
