Join us for this adult program as we travel down the rabbit hole with
Alice to attend the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. In the 1860’s when
Lewis Carroll wrote his ‘Alice’ books, tea gatherings were very popular. At
this time in England there was a wide gap between the poor working class and
the well-to-do upper class and Carroll makes many references to this as well as
the absurd etiquette of the times. We will talk about the history and
importance of tea and etiquette to Victorian England. Learn the difference
between Afternoon Tea, High Tea, Royal Tea, and Cream Tea. And of course,
please wear your most fabulous hat! There will be a tea service following the
lecture. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. You must
sign up to attend, as seating will be limited. Register at www.jeaneslibrary.org or call 610-828-0441.
