UTexas: Jaylen Bond a Role Model for Plymouth Meeting Boy

Former PWHS basketball star and Texas Longhorn Jaylen Bond shares a special relationship with a Colonial fourth grader.

The University of Texas' athletics website recently published a great article on basketball player Jaylen Bond's friendship with Colonial Elementary fourth grader Ryan Sucro.

During his career at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School, Bond helped lead his team to a Pennsylvania Class 4A State Championship. However, he also developed a friendship with Sucro, who would attend many of the Colonials' games with his father.

More recently, Bond surprised Sucro when the youngster was scheduled to do a school report on the ball player, drawing in students from around the building, the article says.

"When I walked in his face got all red," Bond said, grinning. "He just stopped, stood still, and didn't know what to do. Then he ran over to me and gave me a hug and then looked at his mom confused."

Other kids recognized Jaylen, too, as he easily towered over everyone through the hallways of Colonial Elementary. Ryan's fourth-grade classroom soon became a classroom of all grades, as kids piled in to hear his presentation. He was able to do his report as Jaylen sat right next to him.
