Water Main Break Causes Sinkhole, Chaos In Conshohocken

The water main break sparked a chain reaction that has impacted a natural gas main.

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — A large water main burst in Conshohocken is continuing to have significant impacts for the community, leading to a sinkhole that has impacted a local natural gas main.

The Aqua main broke Wednesday night near the intersection of W. 10th Avenue and Coldwell Lane.

The water main quickly caused the sinkhole. Around 90 properties in the area have had both water and gas service interrupted.

Both PECO and Aqua crews are on site working on repairs, while remediation efforts for the water main break and the sinkhole are underway.

Repair work could continue through Friday, officials warned.

In the meantime, impacted residents are invited to make use of the Community Center at the Fellowship House, located at 515 Harry Street. It's serving as a warming center and a place to charge devices. There are also borough resources on site to make alternative overnight plans if needed. It will be open until 9 p.m. Thursday night.

Roadways around the neighborhood remain shut down as repair work continues.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area until further notice. Detours have been established, as laid out in the map below:
