"The families need it, and every child deserves a gift for the holidays. Doing something for another person is important," said WE third grader Ava Gayl.
The WE teachers discussed gift ideas with their classes based on the children's wishlists. The teachers also shopped for items with money they raised.

"It was exciting because we got presents for the little girl," said WE kindergartener Jojo Hanna. "It makes me feel happy because we made her family and the little girl happy."
"This activity gives the students a hands-on experience in helping and volunteering in the community during the holiday season," said WE teacher Liz Malarski. "The kids are excited to brainstorm gift ideas and to see what one class and one school can contribute when they all pitch in."
Mrs. Malarski and another teacher from the school delivered the gifts to the Colonial Neighborhood Council in Conshohocken, who will distribute the presents to the families.
"It makes me feel good because every kid should have gifts on the holidays and feel loved," said WE third grader Anika Bhuyan. "I love helping and doing things for other people. I might even want to help other people when I grow up."
This is the fifteenth year for the Holiday Gift Drive at Whitemarsh Elementary School.
