A 34-year-old Montco woman has pleaded not guilty in the death of a 96-year-old neighbor whom she had never met.

A woman has pleaded not guilty to charges that she killed her 96-year-old neighbor in September in East Norriton, according to court documents.

Authorities said the incident occurred on Sept. 21 at 7:35 a.m. on the 500 block of Marion Avenue.

Police responded to a call of an injured person lying in the driveway. It turned out to be Alfred C. Payne, 96, who had suffered a hip fracture after being attacked by Floyd, the DA said.

Payne was hospitalized, underwent surgery, and then sent to a long-term care facility, where he ultimately died on Feb. 19, according to the DA.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.

Officials noted that Floyd and Payne had never met before the alleged attack.

A motive for the attack remains unclear.
