WPD Reports: DUI, Jewelry Stolen from Elderly

All information is according to official police reports filed at the Whitemarsh Township Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Thefts at the Hill:
At approximately 11:25 a.m. on Monday, July 23, residents of The Hill Retirement Community, at 4000 Fox Hound Drive, Lafayette Hill, reported two thefts. A 91-year-old woman reported that someone had stolen a gold choker of undetermined value from a jewelry box in her room, while an 88-year-old woman reported that someone had stolen three gold rings, three gold bracelets and a gold necklace from her jewelry box.

Suspected DUI:
At approximately 12:02 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, Whitemarsh Police received notice from county authorities that there was a reckless driver in the area of Butler Pike and Militia Hill Roads. Upon searching the area, one patrol car found a vehicle matching a dispatch description traveling east on Stenton Avenue.

After the vehicle swerved into the opposing traffic lane, police pulled the vehicle over. The driver, 39-year-old Kevin Murphy, of Lansdale, told police that he was tired from working the night shift, at which point police had him perform several field sobriety tests. Murphy failed two of the three tests, and police also noticed that he had blood shot eyes and appeared to be shaking, the report said.

Murphy was then taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for a blood chemical test.

Olivia Way shenanigans:
At approximately 6:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, a resident of the 2000 block of Holly Lane, Lafayette Hill, reported to police that someone had stolen two planters from her rear deck. Police discovered that the person took the plants and placed them onto a vehicle on the 500 block of Olivia Way.

The unknown person also placed several trashcans, children’s lawn toys, a patio chair and firewood on the vehicle, causing minor scratches and dents. Two lawn statues were also broken in front of the van.

Theft:
At approximately 1:27 p.m. on Monday, July 23, a resident of the 400 block of East North Lane, Conshohocken, reported to police that someone had scammed him over EBay after he paid $1,300 for a 1970’s Jedson Lapsteel Guitar but never received it. EBay and PayPal told the victim that the 45 days reporting period had expired. Whitemarsh detectives continue to investigate.

Reduced narcotic:
At approximately 4:54 a.m. on Sunday, July 29, a Whitemarsh Police officer observed a 21-year-old Lafayette Hill man skateboarding in the area of Center Avenue and Germantown Pike. Upon speaking with the individual, officers say he pulled a black case out of his pocket containing marijuana and a glass pipe. He was cited for act 64, reduced narcotic.

Harassment by communication:
At approximately 1:02 p.m. on July 25, a Lafayette Hill resident reported to police that her ex-husband had been sending offensive text messages to her mother, after a court ordered that he was not allowed to contact her. Police contacted the suspect and advised him not to contact the mother of his ex-wife.

Theft from home:
At approximately 1:09 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, a resident of the 3000 block of Edmonds Road, Lafayette Hill reported to police that someone had stolen a sterling silver 2”x3” pendant made of opal and black onyx from the jewelry box in her bedroom. The pendant hung on a 16” sterling silver chain.

The victim told police that she believed furniture deliverymen, who had been hired by Sleepy’s to install a bed in her room, stole the pendant.

Harassment by communication:
At approximately 4:33 p.m. on Monday, July 23, a Lafayette Hill resident reported to police that an unknown male called from a blocked number and cursed at her for about ten seconds before hanging up.

The victim told police that she felt threatened by the call and believed she knew who the caller was. She was filing the report in order to file a request to obtain phone records, she told police.
