Carousel At Pottstown Board Member Pleads Guilty After Stealing $300K: DA

The attorney used a massive donation to the nonprofit to pay off a personal debt, officials said.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A Montgomery County attorney pleaded guilty Monday to charges related to the theft of $300,000 from a local nonprofit, according to court documents.

Adam Sager, 57, of Sarasota, Florida, was sentenced to 10 years of probation by Judge Risa Vetri Ferman. He pleaded guilty to theft by failure to make required dispensation of funds.

The theft occurred back in June 2019, though authorities were not aware of it until Feb. 2025.

Sager was a board member and attorney for the Carousel at Pottstown, which runs the second oldest operating wooden carousel in the United States.

The nonprofit approved a large renovation of the carousel, made by the Philadelphia Carousel Company, and sought private donations to finance the work, police said.

Sager said he would contact a local philanthropist to finance the $300,000 work, according to authorities.

However, he also arranged for a $300,000 line of a credit loan for the the non-profit, using falsified board documents alleging that they supported the loan.

Sager then kept the $300,000 donation to pay off the credit loan, the DA said.

No improvement work on the Carousel was made, and the Carousel never received the funds that had been donated.

Other charges against Sager were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
