POTTSTOWN, PA — The highly anticipated arrival of the world largest steam engine in Montgomery County is delayed on Thursday afternoon.
The Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 will now arrive in Pottstown at 4:45 p.m. It's set to depart Pottstown at 5 p.m., according to Union Pacific's latest estimates.
The news will alter plans for legions of the region's locomotive enthusiasts, who have planned to view the train on its way through Pottstown, Royersford, Phoenixville, and on to its overnight resting point in King of Prussia. They'll be battling brutal conditions Thursday, with temperatures soaring to 100 degrees.
An exact schedule for when Big Boy will be at specific times along the route is not known. It should be passing through the Royersford and Phoenixville area shortly after departing Pottstown, however.
