POTTSTOWN, PA — Much needed roadwork began this week to repair a brutal torn-up stretch of Route 422, but construction is snarling traffic on the already heavily congested stretch of roadway.

Work is underway between the Route 100 and Armand Hammer interchanges. It began July 6 and will continue through July 15.

"We heard your calls and emails, but you shouldn't have had to wait this long," State Rep. Joe Ciresi.

More roadwork will begin near Collegeville and Royersford on July 19.

Crews are repaving lanes, and one lane may be shut down while crews direct traffic with flagging.

Construction is slated from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

Drivers may face lengthy delays and should plan for additional travel time, officials said.
