The Chestnut Knoll community came together on Friday, October 23, for a Mini Alzheimer's Walk, bringing residents, family members, staff, and community members together to support individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's disease.
The walk provided an opportunity for participants to unite for a meaningful cause while demonstrating the strength and compassion of the Chestnut Knoll community. Participants walked in solidarity with individuals and families impacted by Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, over $7,200.00 was raised for the Alzheimer's Association to help support its mission and the fight against the disease.
A significant contribution came from Shawn Barndt, who served as Chestnut Knoll's Executive Director for 23 years and currently serves as a regional director supporting the community. In August, Shawn married local resident and contractor Bill Carr. In lieu of wedding gifts, the couple asked for donations to the Alzheimer's Association in support of Chestnut Knoll's walk team and in honor of Bill's mother, Carol, who resides in Chestnut Knoll's memory care neighborhood. Their request raised more than $6,000 for the cause.
"Alzheimer's is a cause that is close to our hearts, especially with Bill's mom, Carol, living at Chestnut Knoll. We wanted to make our wedding celebration meaningful by giving back and supporting the Chestnut Knoll walk team and the Alzheimer's Association. We are so grateful to everyone who contributed and helped make a difference for families affected by this disease," said Shawn Barndt.
The event reflects Chestnut Knoll's ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for residents and their families to connect with the broader community while supporting causes that are meaningful to them.
