90-Acre Farm Preserved Permanently In Montgomery County

NEW HANOVER, PA — A 90-acre farm has been added to the growing list of farms protected in perpetuity by Montgomery County.

The 90-acre Mashintonio number 2 Farm was formally preserved on June 1. The designation means that the farm cannot be developed for non-agricultural purposes into the future. It's part of the Montgomery County Agricultural Land Preservation program, which aims to preserve land for cultural and environmental reasons.

Mashintonio, a grain farm, is located on Hoffmansville Road in New Hanover Township.

“Preserving 90 new acres of farmland is part of our plan to build a sustainable future for the county, and to support the hard work of our agricultural community contributing to that future,” said Val Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “Our local farming businesses give us access to healthy, local foods and conserve our prime agricultural soil.”

The preservation program now has 159 farms and 9,351 acres under its wing in Montgomery County. The county program is part of a larger state program that includes participation by 58 counties throughout the Commonwealth.
