Chestnut Knoll Celebrates Long, Healthy Marriages with Vow Renewal Ceremony

Chestnut Knoll prides itself in honoring the relationships between people. Couples living in the Chestnut Knoll community celebrated their relationships with a mixer and wedding vows renewal.

Chestnut Knoll Personal Care and Memory Care prides itself in honoring the relationships between people. Relationships and community are critical to a good life. On Friday, June 7, couples living in the Chestnut Knoll community celebrated their relationships by having a mixer and renewing their wedding vows.

A wine, cheese and dessert reception was held, where members of the community and staff celebrated the joy and blessing of marriage and love. The party included musical entertainment of oldies love songs performed by George Batman on keyboard. The guests also enjoyed wedding cake, made by Dice’s Creative Cakes in Boyertown, and received complimentary, professional photographs.

Couples who attended were able to have private vow renewal ceremonies. William and Olive Davies, Harold and Ruth Endy, Jack and Marie Leed, Richard and Lois Frain, and Robert “Skip” and Louise Trainer attended the vow renewal ceremony, which was officiated by The Rev., Dr. Barry L. Moyer, Chaplain supervisor. Renewal certificates were given to each couple that exchanged vows.

“We are very successful in keeping couples together, regardless of problems with their bodies or their memories,” said Jodie Daniels, assistant executive director. “We are able to be very creative in our community and always meet the goal of keeping couples together!”

Throughout the event, Daniels engaged the crowd in stories of how people met and how their love lasted. Some of the couples were high school sweethearts and others were blind dates. Many of the couples have been married 60 years or more.

“Combining the years of married couples, be it residents whose spouses live with them here, or residents who are married and one does not yet need our care, we support close to 1,000 years of marriage, allowing people to stay together, get care and live with each other through their older adult life,” said Daniels.

The longest-married couple is William and Lillian Clemens, who first met at a diner, and now they are married 70 years. Following close behind them is Harold and Ruth Endy, who met in school, but did not start dating until after high school. They will be married 69 years this October.

All these years later, all of the couples are still devoted to each other, and are still deeply in love.
