"Be The Media: Getting Your Story in the News Cycle.”

I remember being asked to contribute to Patch after breaking a story on my website about the crime rate in Pottstown being higher than Chicago, Philly, and Compton CA.  Since then, I broke several more stories such as 'Fast and Furious' internal investigation details, technology vulnerabilities, Rendell eyeing the purchase of a Philly newspaper – to name a few. Anybody can do it with the proper channels and methods to receive tips. 

You can also be a local reporter and bring stories to Patch or your own website/blog. Today, everyone has a video camera built into your cell phone.  Cell phone video images have resulted in several big stories – just ask Phil Hare or Anthony Weiner.  A reporter for a large Philadelphia news outlet once told me, some stories cannot be covered due to advertisers – this is where citizens come in.

May 18th, at the Atlantic City Convention Center, learn how to become a voice in your community.  Learn how to use social media, blogs, or build your own websites to provide good quality content.  You will also learn how to look up public records, obtain tips, publish stories, while learning how to protect yourself when putting information in print. 

Many viewers of Patch are passionate about their local communities. The seminar will provide valuable information on becoming an even greater voice.
