FIELD TRIP SCORES A “MAJOR” IVY LEAGUE HOMERUN

POTTSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT

Students from Pottstown High School’s Business, Marketing, and Accounting programs scored a major educational homerun on their field trip to Citizens Bank Park and the University of Pennsylvania.  Along with teachers Rebecca Heiser, Dennis Arms, Melissa Schubert and David Todd, they took a behind-the-scenes tour at the park and saw firsthand what it takes to run a major league stadium.

Stand out tenth grade student-athlete Gary Wise said, “Touring the stadium was a great experience.  It was awesome to be on the field and know all of the things that have to go on in order for the game to be played.”

The tour brought the students on a journey that extended from the luxury boxes to the media room, the club house, and on the field itself.  They had the opportunity to see and learn about all the business and marketing aspects of a major league sports complex.

“Giving the students an opportunity to learn about the experience and operation the size of Citizens Bank Park was an invaluable educational tool.  After the tour, students came away with new ideas about career options and appreciation for the time and effort put into preparing the stadium,” said business teacher Dennis Arms.

During the tour, the students also received a lesson about the history of American
baseball.  The students then traveled to the University of Pennsylvania and toured the campus.  The university trip was doubly meaningful for the students since two of their senior classmates Jasheel Brown and Miranda Somich will be attending the prestigious Ivy League college next year as freshmen.
Students in the group were easily identifiable by their self-designed Business, Marketing, and Accounting tee-shirts.  The front of the
shirt commemorated the field trip and the back proclaimed their pride in their
school with the “We Are Pottstown” slogan.
