CCS students medal in Delaware Valley Science Fair!
Coventry Christian Schools scientific research team finishes 3rd in the Tri-State Delaware Valley Science Fair!

Coventry Christian Schools takes 3rd place at the 68th Delaware Valley Science Fair!
Three students working as a team from Coventry Christian Schools (CCS) finished third at the Tri-State science fair competition held at The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA. Their project involved creating biodiesel fuel from animal fat which had been extracted out of yellow bone marrow from a cow. The oil had to be removed and then the components were broken down and separated, a process known as transesterification. The result of this process was a biodiesel fuel and glycerol. The potential benefits of this process being used on a mass scale include a cheaper way to create biodiesel, a renewable and sustainable source of fuel, and a more environmentally friendly fuel as their fuel produced less CO2 emissions than commercial diesel. The students worked on their project over the past few months winning the Montgomery County Regional Science Fair team competition, which allowed them to advance to the Delaware Valley Competition which is one of the largest science fairs in the United States. In addition to winning the bronze medal in the team competition, the CCS students were awarded the USDA future scientist award.
To qualify for the Delaware Valley Science Fair students must win at one of thirteen regional fairs throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Delaware. More than 2 million dollars in scholarships and prizes were awarded to the winners of the Delaware Valley Science Competition! The top finishers in each category of the Delaware Valley Science Fair will move on to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) competition in Phoenix, Arizona May 8th – 13th.
