Pottstown is filled with young people and teams achieving greatness. These successful youths speak to the ingenuity, creativity, heart and intelligence found in our backyard.
Owen J. Roberts senior Mary Reisenwitz received a $10,000 scholarship from the Greater Pottstown Foundation. Reisenwitz plans on using the four year scholarship to study painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Pitcher Marisa Kineer and the Falcons softball team rode a late season sweep and strong defense into district playoffs. Their counterparts on the Owen J. Roberts baseball team also advanced to district play behind the plate prowess of Dave Reifsnyder, Tim Ponto and Rob Patete.
The borough was well represented at the MontCo All-Star game, as Maika Polamalu, Kayvon Greene, Dan Foust and Tyler Wysochanski of Pottsgrove were joined by Pottstown's Dawon Matthews and Kenny King and Mohamed-Ali Barry of The Hill School. All played for the North team in a losing effort against the South at Souderton Area High School.
Pottstown school district distributed writing rewards to outstanding young ink slingers in every grade level.
It was a big day at Shippensburg, as local athletes from Pottstown and Owen J. Roberts claimed medals at the state meet. OJR high jumper Ryan Brumfield claimed the state title, while Pottstown's boys 4x100 meter also medaled.
