Former Pottstown Woman Set to Be Retried for Husband's Murder

Morgan Mengel is accused of conspiring with her lover to kill her husband, Kevin Mengel Jr., and dispose of his body.

A new trial date has been set for Morgan Marie Mengel, of West Goshen, who is charged with conspiracy to kill her husband Kevin Mengel Jr., the Pottstown Mercury reported.

Chester County Common Pleas Court Senior Judge Thomas Gavin ordered the prosecution and defense to prepare for jury selection to begin on Feb. 4, 2013.

Mengel, formerly of Pottstown, allegedly seduced 23-year-old Stephen Shappell, who worked for the landscaping company she and her husband owned, and convincing him to bludgeon her husband to death in June 2010.

Mengel, 36, is charged with first- and third-degree murder, assault, conspiracy and related crimes. She faces life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder. She, along with Shappell, are being held without bail.
