Historic St. Peter's Village Goes Up For Auction

WARWICK TOWNSHIP, PA — The entirety of St. Peter's Village, a carefully preserved 19th century industrial community on the banks of French Creek, has gone up for auction.

All 83 acres of the site, including all homes and buildings, are included in the sale.

Auctioneers are marketing the land toward "major builders, venture capitalists, historic preservationists, and entrepreneurs."

However, any future changes must comply with a variety of regulations. St. Peter's was designated a National Historic Site in 2003. It is protected at the local and state level by ordinances designed to prevent changes to the exterior of outside structures, and restricting new construction only to certain areas.

The auction is set for Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern.

The historic village was built in the 1880s around the extraction of iron ore from French Creek and mining in the nearby quarries. It lies about seven miles south of Pottstown.

It features 121 homes, including 21 sites of two acres, a wastewater treatment plant, and thirteen commercial village buildings.

Sellers are also including the "subterranean mineral rights," raising the potential of future mining.
