Man High On Meth Assaulted Cop In Lower Pottsgrove: Police

When police tried to arrest the man he became confrontational, authorities said.

LOWER POTTSGROVE, PA — A man high on meth was arrested in Lower Pottsgrove after assaulting a police officer when they attempted to take him in.

The incident occurred on Jan. 9 at around 9:40 p.m. near the Hilltop Restaurant, on the 2900 block of E. High Street.

Ian Stewart, 48, was carrying meth and a smoking pipe on him, and police said they soon discovered he was under the influence.

When police tried to arrest Stewart he resisted, and he and the officer wrestled to the ground.

Eventually the officer was able to get contorl of Stewart and held him down until backup arrived.

Stewart has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication, and related charges.

He failed to post $50,000 bail. He was arraigned Thursday and taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
