Investigation Begins After Pottstown Man Shot, Killed By Police
Breaking: The Montgomery County District Attorney's office has launched an investigation after a suicidal man was killed by police Thursday.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A man was shot and killed by police in Pottstown late Thursday evening, according to multiple sources. The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office has launched an investigation into the incident, as they do for all officer-involved shootings.
The incident occurred at around 11:25 p.m. on 40 High Street, near York Street, according to authorities.
Police had been called to check on an individual who had been described as suicidal. The man had allegedly posted photos of himself online holding a gun to his head and threatening to harm himself.

When police arrived, the man, who appeared to be armed, was in a parking lot near the home. The man would not turn over his weapon, and an officer shot him, police said.
After the incident, police found a BB gun nearby. It's not clear if this was the man's weapon, or if he had a different firearm as well.

The man was taken to Reading Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly therafter.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The name of the police officer and suspect involved in the incident will not be released until the investigation is concluded, authorities said.
