Motorists, Cops Rescue Injured Red-Tail Hawk In Montgomery Co.

Several by-standers helped protect the injured hawk from traffic, while police worked to carefully wrap the injured bird in a jacket.

LOWER POTTSGROVE, PA — Quick action by a local resident and police, along with animal rescuers, saved the life of an injured hawk recently in Montgomery County.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12 in Lower Pottsgrove Township, on the 600 block of N. Pleasantview Road.

A resident noticed the red-tailed hawk injured in the middle of the road, and immediately reported it to police, expressing concern that the bird could run over.

Meanwhile, numerous motorists had stopped and were helping control traffic, trying to keep the bird safe until help could arrive. Among the group was township manager Ed Wagner.

Eventually, they were able to safely move the large hawk off the road.

Lower Pottsgrove's Chief of Police Michael Foltz, Detective Dan Kienle, and Officer Matthew Musselman were nearby and were able to quickly respond to the scene. They used Foltz's jacket to carefully wrap the hawk and keep it in place.

Animal control picked up the hawk, and transported it to AARK Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center in Chalfot, where it is now recovering and doing well, according to police.
