New Connecting Piece Of Schuylkill River Trail Near Pottstown Complete

POTTSTOWN, PA — A key connecting piece of the Schuylkill River Trail near Pottstown has been completed, marking the final segment for the 70 mile stretch from Philadelphia to Reading.

The 0.9 mile connector between Industrial Highway and the Route 422 bridge closes one of the final notable gaps on the trail.

"The new segment also provides a safer, more direct route for people walking, biking, running, and rolling across the region," Montgomery County government shared in a statement.

The trail starts near Bartram's Garden in Philadelphia. While for years it has existed in relative patchwork form along the Schuylkill out to Reading, the completion of an array of gaps in recent years has finally led to the ultimate goal of a seamless route.

"We’re already seeing the impact," Schuylkill River Greenways shared. "Trail traffic is up."

"It's beautiful," Pottstown Mayor Stephanie Henrick added. "Enjoy the ride."

Officials added that it was also the last portion of the Schuylkill River Trail that had been on a road.
