Night Shift Supervisor Has Knack For Saving Lives

Carol Keesey, night shift supervisor at Chestnut Knoll, went above and beyond the call of duty to help restaurant patron

Chestnut Knoll Personal Care and Memory Care of Boyertown would like to recognize its night shift supervisor, Carol Keesey.

Keesey has a knack for saving lives. And, thanks to her dedication and training she’s learned throughout her 11 years as night shift supervisor, she has the skills to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Most recently, Keesey used her CPR training while working her second job at the Brookside Family Restaurant. A gentleman was found unresponsive in the bathroom and a co-worker called for her help. She was quick to offer assistance and performed chest compressions while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

“It was really scary, I know that. I was very shaken up, but I’m glad everything turned out OK and the gentleman survived,” said Keesey.

Although a first for CPR, this isn’t the only time her lifesaving skills were put to use. She has used the Heimlich maneuver to save three other restaurant patrons. In addition to CPR and the Heimlich, she is trained in first-aid through her employment at Chestnut Knoll.

“Chestnut Knoll has prepared me for a lot of emergency situations, as well as providing dementia and other health care related training,” said Keesey. It’s a great place to work. It’s very rewarding and I love helping people.”

Her continuous training has allowed her to handle extraordinary situations outside of her health care profession. “The Chestnut Knoll Team is extremely proud of Carol and her quick thinking, professional reaction and response,” said Shawn Barndt, executive director at Chestnut Knoll. “We are lucky to have her as a supervisor of our caregiving team!”
