Potassium Iodide Pills For Nuclear Exposure To Be Distributed In Pottstown

POTTSTOWN, PA — A potassium iodide distribution event will be held in Pottstown on Thursday, Aug. 13.

The nuclear exposure emergency preparedness event is one of three events organized by the Montgomery County Department of Health.

Officials say that potassium iodide can help protect the thyroid gland from the harmful effects of radioactive iodine that may be released during a nuclear accident.

Visit Pottstown Health Center, located on 364 King Street, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to receive free tablets.

Similar events are being held Thursday at the Upper Providence Township administration building, the Lower Pottsgrove Township Building, and the Limerick Fire Station.

All individuals who live or work within a 10 mile radius of the Limerick nuclear plant are eligible for the tablets.
