Pottsgrove School Board Tackles Budget

The board made decisions about staff based on an expected budget deficit.

The Pottsgrove School District Board of School Directors met Tuesday and discussed various items including the 2011 - 2012 budget.

The board approved several retirements, resignations and transfers within the district including the transfer of Ruth Fisher from principal at West Pottsgrove Elementary School to principal at Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School and the transfer of Theresa Koehler from Supervisor of Secondary Education and Assessment to principal at West Pottsgrove Elementary School.  Both transfers will come into effect on July 1.

The board decided not to fill Koehler’s position to help lower a projected budget deficit of $200,000. The board also discussed the possibility of not filling vacant teaching positions as well, which could mean an increase in class size.

A vote to approve the 2011 - 2012 budget will be held on June 27.

District Clerk of the Works Tom McGrady gave the board an update on construction of the new Ringing Rocks Elementary School. A 10-minute video was presented detailing the latest progress on the new facility. Although the recent rain has slowed construction on the exterior of the new school, McGrady feels optimistic about the project’s progress so far.
