Pottsgrove School Employee Exposed To Coronavirus; No Closures

The Pottstgrove School District said the school community was not impacted by an elementary school employee who was exposed to the virus.

POTTSGROVE, PA — A parent of a Pottsgrove High School student, who is also a part-time school employee at Ringing Rocks Elementary, had contact with an individual who has coronavirus, the school district said on Tuesday.

However, the employee has not been in any school building since Feb. 27, and the contact was made on March 3, according to the school district. So the school community is not impacted and no closures are planned.

The employee and her child, the high school student, will remain at home in self-quarantine for 14 days.

Pottsgrove's Superintendent William R. Shirk Jr. said that the decision to remain open was made after consulting with the Montgomery County Office of Public Health.

The district added that they have been "diligent" about cleaning their schools and offices, including classrooms and "high-touch" areas like desks, countertops, and doorknobs.

The news comes as the eighth positive test for coronavirus was discovered in Montgomery County Tuesday, as well as the first in Philadelphia. That brings the state total up to 12.
