Pottstown Artists Open Doors to Montgomery County Studio Tour
Come out and meet the artists in your neighborhood on June 9th and 10th
“Be a Part of Something Big”, the motto of County Studio Tour, is an appropriate one. The organization created by artist Jeff Schaller to promote the visual arts in our region is in its ninth year. Last year CST added the Montgomery County Studio Tour to the growing list of successful regional tours. This year the 2nd annual Montgomery County Studio Tour takes place throughout the county over the weekend of June 9th &10th. The tour includes 51 artists in 21 studios making it the perfect size for a weekend of self guided exploration. Look for the Studio Tour signs along roadsides in Early June. They will help guide you to the various studio locations which are clearly designated with Meet the Artists banners. Come out early for a chance to purchase the coveted County Collector pieces created by tour artists and sold for special reduced prices on tour dates only.
This year the Borough of Pottstown features 11 artists in 3 studios that will open their doors to the public during the tour. An exhibition at the Hill School’s Boyer Gallery provides an overview of artists from across the county, an excellent way to help plan your tour route. The Boyer Gallery show is free and open to the public. While in Pottstown make sure to visit The Carousel on King Street. The custom carved animals revolving on this beautifully renovated historic amusement ride were all hand painted and finished by area artists. On Saturday the 9th you’ll find art vendors and activities along High Street and enjoy discounts at local restaurants as part of Pottstown’s Art Walk, an annual free event produced by Art Fusion 19464, Pottstown's community art center.
Seeing where the art you love is produced is a rare experience. Meeting artists within the environment that inspires them lends depth and meaning to the work they make. The urge to make art is mysterious; the people involved in the practice are tucked into our local landscape, quietly creating. We hope you’ll come out and enjoy a weekend of discovery.
