Pottstown Equips Classroom With Standing Desks, Touts Student Improvements

Advocates say that Pottstown students using the desks are implementing a "whole body learning approach" and are seeing improved performance.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Standing on the breezy portico of his home just outside of Havana, Ernest Hemingway scribbled notes of his novels and short stories at a desk that was chest-high. Now, health officials and administrators at Pottstown High School are touting the benefits of the standing desk for students.

The desks emphasize "whole body learning," according to administrators, and students using the desks have shown increased performance, engagement, and overall wellness.

The desks can be adjusted to fit the height that is comfortable for each student. Ergotron says using their design can improve metabolic health, which leads to alertness. They added that it also helps improve posture and reduce neck strain.
