Pottstown Homecoming Quelled By Indians

The Trojans fed off of the halftime energy to tie the game at 20 late in the fourth quarter, only to fall 27-20.

Seniors Alyssa Maldanado and Christian Morant snagged the honors as Pottstown's homecoming queen and king. The news was announced following an energetic field show by the Trojans Marching band.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Maldanado. “You think as a little girl about being homecoming queen. It means a lot to be voted for by the whole school. I am so proud to represent my class.”

On the gridiron, in football Pottstown trailed 20-7 at halftime, but seemed to be energized by the marching band's rousing tribute to “Football: The Great American Game” as Sage Reinhardt led two scoring drives with a lot of help from Malik Brinkley, who was doing his best Walter Payton impression as he racked up almost 100 yards in the second half alone, breaking tackles and refusing to go down without a fight.

Brinkley topped off his sensational post intermission effort by scoring on a 26-yard run in which he tip towed down the sideline, breaking free of tribe tacklers and finding the end zone to tie the game at 20 with 6:03 left in regulation.

A bid for a Trojan overtime win was thwarted by Upper Perk wide out Ronnie Gillespie as he hauled in a 25-yard touchdown toss from Dylan Wesley with 29 second left with a Pottstown defender slipping on the water logged turf to dampen the spirits of the hundreds of fans that endured first half weather that resembled a scene out of the “Wizard of Oz.”

The Trojans (2-4) had one last gasp effort as Reinhart and company executed a perfect hook and ladder play with Brinkley breaking free before finally being wrestled out of bounds by Gillespie at the Tribe 5-yard line as time expired to preserve the win for the Indians, who improved to 3-3.
