Police said Morgan began speaking to the mother about Mayo in a derogatory manner, and continued to "verbally berate" Mayo as the group tried to leave. The mother started to pull the car away but Mayo then got out and started arguing with Morgan at the back of the car, according to a criminal complaint.
The argument did not turn physical, the mother told police, Morgan took his gun out and shot Mayo once in the chest, police said. Mayo was unarmed.
