Pottstown Schools, MCCC Cancel Wed. Classes

MCCC could open for evening classes; decision by noon Wednesday

Citing ongoing power problems in the wake of Hurricane Sandy's impact on the region, both the Pottstown School District and Montgomery County Community College cancelled scheduled classes for Wednesday, Oct. 31.

"Due to an ongoing loss of power in the east end of our community and unresolved issues with live wires down on the streets, all Pottstown Schools will be closed on Wednesday, October 31, 2012," said acting Pottstown Superintendent Jeff Sparagana in an email disseminated by the district.

District and school offices will be open starting at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

At Montgomery County Community College, all classes scheduled to begin before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday were cancelled. The school promised a decision by noon Wednesday on whether evening classes would be held.

Power was still out at the college's central campus in Blue Bell on Tuesday evening, which was requiring the school to use fuel-powered generators to power its information systems, including its website and email facilities.
